the fine print, in plain words
Terms of Service
the short version
- Braid is software that runs on your machines and drives AI agents you have installed and signed in to yourself.
- Those agents act with your permissions. What they do on your machines and in the accounts you connect is your responsibility, so review what they do.
- Braid is early software, offered as it is, without warranties.
- How we handle data is covered by the Privacy Policy.
1. The agreement
Braid is a product of Underhive Inc. ("Underhive", "we", "us"), a company based in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. These terms are an agreement between you and Underhive. They cover the Braid apps (desktop app, terminal app, background service and mobile app), the website at iambraid.com and the service at api.iambraid.com. Together we call these "Braid".
By installing or using Braid you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Braid. If you use Braid for an organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
You must be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live, and in any case at least 13 years old (16 where local law sets that age for consenting to data processing).
2. What Braid is
- Braid runs on your own computers and devices. It lets you browse, continue, branch and share conversations with AI agents such as Claude Code and Codex, reach your machines from your other devices, and let those agents work for you.
- Braid does not provide the AI models. It drives agent programs that you have installed and signed in to, under your own account with each provider.
- Our servers relay end-to-end encrypted traffic between your devices and store encrypted copies of things you choose to share. The Privacy Policy describes this, and the one case where our servers handle unencrypted content (the optional Discord integration).
- Personal assistant features, including connecting a Google account, are in development. They may be limited, may change, and may not be available to you.
3. Accounts
- Some features need a Braid account. Give us a working email address and keep it current.
- Keep your password safe. It protects your encryption keys, and we cannot recover it or your encrypted data for you if you lose it, because we never have the key.
- You are responsible for activity under your account and on devices you have paired. Pairing a device gives it broad access to that machine, including a terminal. Only pair devices you own and control, and unpair any device you lose.
- Treat invite links like passwords. Anyone who has the full link can read what it shares.
- Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think your account has been misused.
4. Your agents, your machines, your accounts
This is the part that matters most.
- Agents act as you. An AI agent started through Braid runs on your machine with your user account's permissions. It can read and change files, run commands, use the network, and use the accounts and tools you have given it. You decide which agents to run, where, and with which permissions, and you are responsible for what they do.
- Agents make mistakes. AI output can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. Agents can be misled by instructions hidden in content they read, such as an email, a document or a web page. Check important output before relying on it, and review actions that send, publish, delete, pay or otherwise cannot be undone. Approval prompts in Braid are a safeguard, not a guarantee.
- Connected accounts. If you connect a third-party account such as Google, you confirm that it is your account or that you are authorised to connect it, and that doing so is allowed by that service's terms and, for a work or school account, by your organisation. You are responsible for what is done in that account through Braid at your direction, including messages sent in your name.
- Other people's information. Your mail, files and conversations contain information about other people. You are responsible for having the right to process it with the tools and AI providers you choose.
- Backups. Keep your own backups of anything you care about. Braid is not a backup service.
5. Acceptable use
Do not use Braid to:
- break the law, or infringe or violate anyone else's rights;
- access machines, accounts or data that you are not authorised to access;
- send spam, run phishing or fraud, harass people, or distribute malware;
- attack, overload, probe or disrupt our servers, get around rate limits or access controls, or use the relay or storage for anything other than Braid's own features;
- break the terms of the AI providers or other third-party services you use through Braid.
Good-faith security research that avoids other users' data and service disruption is welcome. Report findings to [email protected].
6. Third-party services and AI providers
Braid works with services that we do not run: AI model providers (such as Anthropic and OpenAI), the agent programs themselves, Google, Discord, GitHub and others. Your use of each of them is governed by your own agreement with them, including their prices, usage limits and data practices. Usage that Braid causes on your behalf counts against your own plan with the provider. We are not responsible for third-party services, for their availability, or for changes they make that affect Braid.
7. Your content, our software
- Your content stays yours. We claim no ownership of your conversations, files or connected-account data. You give us only the permission needed to run the service for you, which in practice means storing and delivering the encrypted data you choose to share or sync.
- Braid, its software, name and design belong to Underhive and its licensors. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Braid under these terms. Open-source components included in Braid are covered by their own licences.
- If you send us feedback, we may use it without any obligation to you.
8. Early software, no warranty
Braid is under active development. Features may change, break or be removed, and the service may be unavailable at times. Some features are experimental or labelled beta.
To the fullest extent the law allows, Braid is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that Braid will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free, that data will not be lost, or that anything produced by an AI agent is accurate or suitable for your purpose.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- Underhive is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill;
- Underhive is not liable for actions taken by AI agents on your machines or in your connected accounts, for the acts of third-party services or AI providers, or for content you chose to share;
- Underhive's total liability for all claims relating to Braid is limited to the greater of US$100 or the amount you paid us for Braid in the 12 months before the claim.
Some places do not allow some of these limits. Where that is so, they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing in these terms removes rights you have as a consumer that cannot legally be waived.
10. Ending things
- You can stop using Braid at any time by uninstalling it. To delete your account, follow the Privacy Policy.
- We may suspend or end your access to our servers if you break these terms, if we must do so by law, or if your use puts the service or other people at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first.
- We may discontinue Braid or any part of it. If we shut down the hosted service, we will try to give reasonable notice.
- Software already on your machine, and data stored there, stays with you. Sections 4, 7, 8, 9 and 12 continue to apply after these terms end.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Braid changes. We will change the effective date above, and for material changes we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Braid after that, you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, stop using Braid.
12. Governing law and general terms
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes about these terms or Braid will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and Underhive agree to the jurisdiction of those courts. If you are a consumer, this does not take away protections that the law of the country you live in says cannot be waived.
If part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term, that is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer these terms to someone else without our consent; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of Braid. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Braid.
